Seamore Farming - 23 February 2016

Seamore Farming has been sentenced after one of its workers, 19-year-old Zach Dean Fox, died clearing a blockage in a grain bin at Deanfoot Farm in Hawick, Scotland. Seamore Farming did not have a safe system of work for clearing silo blockages.The storage silo, which was used during harvest time, had an exit hole at the bottom where grain could pour out of and onto a chain conveyor belt.

Unilever SA in sunflower partnership

Consumer goods firm Unilever South Africa has formed a sunflower farming partnership as part of its sustainable living plan and has successfully developed hybrid seeds, which are expected to reduce the country's dependence on sunflower oil imports."This project is currently under way in Limpopo province where almost 30 000 hectares of land is under sunflower crops and expected to yield 20% of Unilever's oil requirements in South Africa," Unilever said in a statement last week.

On the 28th May 2015 TUVRheinland® conducted the OHSAS 18001:2007 surveillance audit by two auditors Mr. Jan Kirstein and Mr. Colin Silk. The audit was concluded with only identifying 5 opportunities for improvement resulting in CEOCO (Pty.) ltd successfully retaining the OHSAS 18001:2007 certification.
